About Education
The Configuring Cisco MDS 9000 Series Switches (DCMDS) v3.1 course shows you how to implement, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco® MDS 9000 Series Switches to create highly available, scalable storage networks. Through expert training and extensive hands-on experience, you will learn how to implement and implement features such as Virtual Storage Area Networks (VSANs), Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), N-Port Virtualization (NPV), network security, zoning, automation with NX-API, Slow Drain Analysis, SAN analytics, and Fibre Channel over TCP/IP (FCIP) tunnels. You will specialize in configuring and implementing platform features by learning troubleshooting techniques for Fibre Channel (FC) domains, firmware updates, zones, and zone joins. This course helps you prepare for the “Implementing Cisco Storage Area Networking (300-625 DCSAN)” exams toward the CCNP Data Center and “Certified Specialist – Data Center SAN Implementation” certifications.
Prerequisites
- Fundamental knowledge of data storage hardware components and protocols (including Small Computer Systems Interface (SCSI) and Fiber Channel)
- Basic knowledge of network protocols (including Ethernet and IP)
- Recommended: Cisco CCNA® certification

- Instructor-led training: 4 days in the classroom with hands-on laboratory work
- Virtual instructor-led training: 4-day web-based classes with hands-on lab work

- Explore and describe the Cisco Multilayer Routing Switch (MDS) platform. Describe the MDS hardware, the NX-OS operating system, the Data Center Network Manager (DCNM) software, and the platform's key architectures, such as Fibre Channel (FC) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE).
- Describe the key product features of the MDS platform, such as VSANs, RBAC, NPV, port channels, zoning, device aliases, inter-VSAN routing (IVR), and fabric security.
- Configure and implement Cisco MDS switches and platform features: Initial configuration, fabric creation, SAN extension construction, and configuring inter-VSAN routing for this purpose.
